"Consumed"

The fire has already begun.

There is no beginning to it here. No explanation for where it came from or why it chose him. Only the moment when the flames have become impossible to separate from the man standing within them.

Something is being taken from him.

Or perhaps something is being taken from the fire.

The lines move through the figure like fragments of a thought that cannot be held still. Light appears where it shouldn't. Darkness remains where it should be gone.

And somewhere inside all of it, he remains.

Still standing.

Still burning.

Still becoming something the fire has not yet revealed.

Maybe being consumed is not always about what is lost.

Maybe sometimes, it is about what remains when there is nothing left to hide behind.
